PROGRAMS

Our diploma programs are built to transform students into skilled barbers with strong business and communication skills. Upon graduation, you’ll receive a recognized Canadian Diploma that opens doors to opportunities across the world.

Program Options for International Students:

Professional Barbering Diploma (6 months)
Foundations of Barbering Diploma (3–6 months)
Advanced Barbering Diploma (1 year)
Online & Hybrid Options Available

Co-Op Work Experience

Our optional Co-op Work Program allows international students to legally gain valuable, real-world work experience in Canada.

You'll work in barbershops or grooming environments while building your network, gaining confidence, and earning income — all with the support of our Career Team.

This experience offers:

Professional placements in local barbershops
Industry networking and real clients
Academic credit for work experience
Possibility for long-term employment

About Uppercuts Barber Academy

Located in the heart of Surrey, BC, Uppercuts is Canada’s elite training ground for future barbers. With small class sizes, master instructors, and job placement support, our students receive an education that’s personal, practical, and powerful.

We're a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and recognized for our hands-on, intensive training approach focused solely on barbering.

Admissions

Admission Requirements:

Must be 19+ or have completed high school
Submit a completed application
Interview with Admissions Director (virtual available)
English speaking/writing competency
Study Permit (for full-time programs over 6 months)

Once accepted, we’ll issue your Official Letter of Acceptance, needed for visa and permit applications.

Study Permit

To study with us in Canada, you’ll likely need a Study Permit. Here’s what’s generally required:

Acceptance Letter from Uppercuts
Valid Passport
Proof of funds
No criminal record & health clearance
Proof of return intent after studies

For short-term courses (under 6 months), a permit may not be needed. Learn more at the Government of Canada website.

Housing Support

Our team helps international students find comfortable and safe housing. From shared apartments to homestays, we’ll assist in locating accommodations that match your needs and budget.

Medical Coverage

You’ll need BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) during your studies. If your program is longer than 6 months, you’re eligible to apply. It covers most doctor visits and hospital care (but not prescriptions or dental).

Apply early to avoid the 90-day waiting period.

Who qualifies as an international student?
Anyone without Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.

What are the class sizes?
We keep classes small for personalized instruction.

Can I work while studying?
Yes! With a valid study permit, you can work up to 20 hours per week off-campus.

Do I need to be fluent in English?
We require basic conversational English. We offer additional support for non-native speakers.

Is housing guaranteed?
We assist with housing referrals but do not provide dorms.
